At POSCO E&C, we are moving forward to obtain energy from fire, light and wind. We proactive work to realize prosperity in harmony with nature and open up a brighter future. We continue to demonstrate excellence in our energy business technology, as shown by winning coal-fired power plant projects in Chile and Peru, which are the first plant projects in Latin America to be won by Korean construction companies.
We are seeking to advance into the future energy business, including green energy, such as wind and solar power, the SNG that produces synthesis gases out of coal, and the CCS for collecting and storing carbon dioxide. We will continue to practice our philosophy of symbiosis, which will enrich human life and harmonize nature with humankind.
Coal-Fired Power
A coal-fired power plant generates power by driving a steam turbine with the steam generated by the combustion of coal in a boiler. It consists of a coal unloading/conveyance system, boiler, steam turbine, waste gas handling system (e.g., a desulfurization system), and an ash handling system.
In 2007, POSCO E&C was awarded the EPC projects for coal-fired power plants in Latin America , thereby becoming the first Korean EPC contractor for coal-fired power plant in the area. Following the successful completion of the Nueva Ventanas project in Chile in 2009, POSCO E&C successfully completed the Campiche project and the Angamos project in the country.
Coal Chemical
Coal Chemical is a field where transforms coal into gas, liquid, solid fuel and a wide range of chemicals through thermal or chemical processing. There is a lot of interest in Coal Chemical industry due to the unbalance in supply and demand and rise in price of oil. Coal with a huge reserve in the world can replace oil in terms of energy and chemical feedstock.
POSCO E&C is performing the engineering, procurement and construction of 500,000 ton/yr of SNG plant in Gwangyang.
