Kawasaki Heavy Industries - We Offers High-end Complete Ultra-Super Critical (USC) Coal-fired Power Plant Solution

Kawasaki has delivered more than 1,000 coal-fired boiler plants.

Unlike oil and gas, coal can vary greatly in its properties, depending on its region of production. Therefore, when planning a coal fired power plant, a comprehensive planning on total plant encompassing the boiler and peripheral equipment for handling and treating of the coal as well as the byproducts like ash and flue gas, is indispensable. Kawasaki is capable of such planning for all kinds of commercial and industrial coal fired boiler including their peripheral equipment.

Features

The pulverized coal-fired boiler by Kawasaki has the following features.
  1. The plant is based on the proper evaluation of coal and reflecting the optimum facility plan and operationability.
  2. The CC burner of highly efficient and low NOX burning developed by Kawasaki is adopted.
  3. The KVM type pulverized coal mill with high efficiency and operationability developed by Kawasaki group is adopted.
  4. The boiler and SCR ( denitrification plant ) are well-planned in consideration of factors affecting the performance of the SCR including gas temperature, the concentration distribution of O2 and NOX.
Solidified Coal Ash Aggregate Manufacturing Facility

Kawasaki is a leading ash handling plant manufacture with the largest market share in Japan, having a track record in delivering many ash handling systems for a coal-fired boiler. In addition, we have established a high-security and high-reliability system in the field of effective utilization of coal ash thanks to rich experiences and various researches for long years.

Recently, coal ash amounts to 10 million tons, which makes it more and more difficult to dispose due to high disposal cost and very few landfills. Thinking of these, Kawasaki is focusing on efficient use of coal ash to contribute to creating an environmentally-friendly and recycle-based society. The Solidified Coal Ash Aggregate Manufacturing Facility is an example of the efficient use of coal ash.

Features

Our unique technology is employed-- first we add additives to coal ash and steam-cure it to solidify. This technology prevents hazardous heavy metals from liquating out and enables us to manufacture environmentally-friendly solidified aggregate which meets the environmental quality?standards for soil.

This can be used as civil engineering materials for land-fill, backfill, ground improvement and others.
Especially, this aggregate has been often utilized as a road bed material for prefectural roads, proving to be comparable to natural aggregate in characteristics.

Ash Handling Plant

Kawasaki has supplied as many as approximately 80% of the ash handlingplants to Japan's commercial coal-fired power plants by responding to every type of boilers including a pulverized coal boiler, a fluidized bed boiler and a COM (coal-oil mixture) boiler.

Features

The ash handling technology is divided into two-the bottom ash handling and fly ash handling.

Of the bottom ash handling system, the Magaldi Ash Cooler System (MAC System) developed by Italy's Magaldi, Inc. is a mechanical handling system requiring no cooling water uses air to cool bottom ash, contributing greatly to the drastic simplification of facilities and the effective use of heat.

As to fly ash handling, we can provide the optimum system to meet the customers' needs in consideration of fly ash density, conveying capabilities and distance.

We have pursued the `Completeness' of our system based on the mastery of advanced technologies and rich experiences.

Kawasaki with rich experiences of constructing power plants as a comprehensive engineering manufacture has mastered completely the technologies of United Conveyor Corporation, the largest ash handling equipment manufacturer in the U.S., since the technical cooperation. At the same time, we have enhanced the completeness of our system by the technical introduction of a dry clinker conveyor and a submerged chain conveyor to address diversified ash and by adding our own technologies to deliver equipment to meet the needs of power plants nationwide.

Kawasaki Advanced Clean Combustion (KACC) Boiler

Kawasaki has developed `the Kawasaki Advanced Clean Combustion Boiler ' aiming at reducing NOx and dust emission by a completely different method from conventional ones. This boiler can reduce NOx and dust emission drastically by firing heavy oil containing much Fuel-N in a furnace made up of a high temperature reduction burning zone and a low temperature oxidation zone. We have delivered 3 boilers of an evaporation capacity of 100~200 t/h since its first delivery in 1998, all of which are acclaimed for their performance with low NOx and dust emission. This system is effective for asphalt as well as ordinary heavy oil to ensure an operation with unprecedentedly low NOx and stable and highly-efficient combustion.

Features

The greatest feature of this boiler is that the combustion chamber is divided into two--the upper and the lower. In the firewalled lower chamber, heavy oil is gasified by the high temperature reduction combustion under a high temperature of 1,500~1,800 deg.C and next in the water-walled upper chamber burning is completed by the low temperature oxidation. By combining upper and lower chambers different in temperature and ambience, highly efficient and stable combustion with less than 100 ppm NOx and less than 250 mg/Nm3 is achieved.
