Longview Power Clean Energy Center - We Integrates Three Highly Advanced Clean Coal, Natural Gas and Solar Electrical Generation Facilities

Overview

The Longview Power Clean Energy Center integrates three highly advanced clean coal, natural gas and solar electrical generation facilities to reliably supply over 2000 MW of low cost electricity to northern West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania.

An “All the Above” Energy Center
  • The 710 MW Longview state-of-the-art clean coal power plant is optimized for efficiency and extremely low emissions to generate continuously at base load from high quality northern Appalachian coal.
  • The 1270 MW Longview combined cycle plant will incorporate advanced turbine technology and existing infrastructure to produce low cost electricity when needed from abundant Marcellus natural gas reserves.
  • The 70 MW utility grade Longview solar facility will use over 185,000 solar panels on 300 acres and be one of the largest solar generation facilities in Appalachia.
Environmentally Sustainable Electrical Generation
  • The Longview clean coal plant is one of the cleanest in the world and meets or exceeds Best Available Control Technology (“BACT”) standards to achieve:
  • 99% reduction in particulate matter
  • 5% reduction in sulfur dioxide (SO2)
  • 20% reduction in CO2 emissions
  • mercury emissions readily comply with Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (“MATS”)
  • The Longview combined cycle plant will be designed to meet BACT standards with very low emissions for natural gas fired power plants.
  • Longview Power Clean Energy Center will recycle and efficiently utilize water to minimize treated discharges to surface waters.
Community and Regional Benefits

The Longview Power Clean Energy Center has and will continue to provide considerable social and economic benefits to northern West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania.
  • Longview purchases coal, natural gas, limestone and other consumables from regional and local sources.
  • The Longview Energy Center will procure over $95 million in goods and services from local and regional vendors.
  • The Longview Energy Center will make almost $5 million in annual taxes and PILOT payments.
  • The Longview Energy Center will employ over 180 in skilled, high-paying jobs with combined annual payroll and benefits of over $22.5 million.
  • Longview supports continued economic activity for area businesses, housing, tax rolls, and community organizations.
  • Longview supports a variety of local initiatives to enhance the environment and help our communities including the Dunkard Creek watershed management plan which will remediate the river by removing and treating AMD seeps.
