At an earlier time, PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa (Go-Jek) acquires three startup companies of local technology-based financial services (financial technology). Corporate action is to strengthen the service payment system Go-Pay owned Go-Jek.
The corporate action ever carried out in the middle of a fairly rapid development of fintech in Indonesia. Fintech is viewed can support national non-cash movement that proclaimed by the Government, but the industry also faces challenges in the form of fintech system integration between financial payment service providers.
Researchers from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Bhima Yudhistira saw the action Go-Jek acquires Midtrans, Kartuku and Mapan is the attempt to speed up the integration of the system.
"This is actually a great effort because the cost of transactions more efficient and encourage financial innovation," said Bima in a statement Friday (22/12/2017).
Bhima said, the acquisition will not interfere with the existence of banking that provides financial services to the community. The reason, the current total funding through the fintech still below 5 percent of the total distribution of credit.
In addition, the company's fintech also can't directly deliver products banking services to the public, but help channel it which means eases banking reach out to the community.
Bhima asked regulators examine more deeply before issuing a policy with regard to the financial technology industry.
"If it's not careful it is feared will be counterproductive to innovation fintech in Indonesia," said Bhima
Bhima assess the potential enormous in fintech Indonesia. This can be seen from the fact that Indonesia occupies the fifth position of the countries with the largest number of internet users in the world, which is as many as 132 million people. As for as many as 180 million unbanked, namely banking services untouched.
Previously, Go-Jek has announced the acquisition of three local fintech companies that fintech. The move is believed to be supporting the expansion of Go-Pay, strengthen the position as a leader in the digital wallet service industry and independent payment processing.
