Our company’s story started in one of the most carbon-intensive places on earth: the Alberta oil fields.

Carbon Upcycling Technologies (CUT) was founded on the basis of a belief that carbon is a resource, not a problem.


Our Technology

Carbon Upcycling Technologies (CUT) chemically adsorbs CO2 emissions into inorganic solids to create a portfolio of fine nanoparticles such as:
  • Graphitic nanoplatelets (GNPs)
  • Graphene oxide (GO)
  • Graphene quantum dots (GQDs)
  • Enhanced fly ash (EFA)
We believe The Carbon Age is imminent. Except unlike bronze and iron, CO2 is an abundant, renewable resource.


The creation of carbon-based materials helps the planet by reducing waste, instead of harming it through resource-intensive extraction.

Per tonne of product, CUT's technology sequesters between 50 to 150 kilograms of CO2.

The sequestered CO2 is stable up to 200 degrees Celsius.

CUT products provide many benefits including: 
  • CO2 uptake of up to 30% per tonne of end product
  • Reinforce concrete mixes by up to 32%
  • Reinforce adhesives and epoxies mechanically in fracture toughness and tensile strength
Products

CONCRETE CORROSION COATING

CUT has successfully commercialized high-performance protective coatings that we call our AlphaCarbon line. This ceramic-based coating provides cost-effective exceptional protection from harmful H2S gas and extreme PH conditions. The coating is compatible with Portland cement concrete surfaces resulting in exceptional adhesion and a lifetime of protection. This coating can be applied with minimal surface preparation and without any harmful emissions. AlphaCarbon coating is the right choice for both new and rehabilitation projects.

POLYETHYLENE NUCLEATING AGENT

Polyethylene is one of the most abundant types of plastic in the world. CUT employed its carbon-based nanoparticles to create a solution that makes polyethylene stronger and easier to produce.

ENHANCED FLY ASH

Producing a ton of cement generates nearly a ton of CO2, making it a critical industry of focus as we strive for a carbon negative world.


OUR FLY ASH: EFA-100

EFA-100 is an enhanced fly ash product that increases the compressive strength of concrete by up to 32% relative to conventional fly ash products.

FLY ASH UPGRADE

To encourage companies to increase their usage of fly ash and reduce their usage of cement, CUT developed a solution that upgrades fly ash. As a result, concrete that uses CUT’s enhanced fly ash is 30% stronger.
