L&T Power provides the entire range of supercritical power equipment and services on EPC basis. Its integrated manufacturing facility at Hazira in Gujarat (India) with global partners has a manufacturing capacity of 5000 MW per annum.

Turnkey Solutions

Close to 80 per cent of all the mining in India is for coal, by far the most abundantly available fossil fuel in the country. About 75 % of all that coal is consumed by the power industry to drive more than 50 per cent of the country's total installed capacity.

India’s 12th Five year plan envisages around 79% capacity addition through coal-fired power plants.

L&T Power offers turnkey solutions for large coal-based power plant projects (up to 1000 MW) based on supercritical standards. Similarly, it has demonstrated capability of executing balance of plant packages for both subcritical and supercritical thermal projects on EPC basis.

Supercritical Turbine Generators

L&T-MHPS Turbine Generators Private Limited (formerly L&T-MHI Turbine Generators Private Limited), a JV between Larsen & Toubro & Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) of Japan, manufactures supercritical steam turbines of up to 1000 MW rating. Through a technology transfer agreement with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Japan, the company also manufactures generators to match the specified range. MHPS products have the added advantages of ease in maintenance, reduction in vibration stresses and better performance in a corrosive environment. The JV also offers state-of-the-art facility for Generator Testing and High Speed Balancing.


Supercritical Boilers

L&T-MHPS Boilers Private Limited (formerly known as L&T-MHI Boilers Private Limited), our joint venture with the world leading Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS), executes supercritical boiler islands of up to 1000 MW on turnkey basis, forging its own considerable engineering and project management prowess with the technological muscle of the Japanese giant.


Environmental Solutions

Flue Gas Desulphurisation Technology

L&T has a long-term technical licence agreement with Chiyoda Corporation, Japan, for its ‘Chiyoda Thoroughbred 121TM (CT-121TM)’ Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) technology. The agreement grants L&T exclusive rights to undertake EPC of CT-121TM FGD systems. The CT-121TM FGD process is a unique technology in which sulphur dioxide is absorbed from flue gas generated by coal-fired, oil-fired and other types of boilers and removed as gypsum. This technology is highly efficient, enabling low-cost removal of flue gas SO2. Moreover, it ensures that the plant remains compact and easy to maintain. 

Selective Catalytic Reduction Systems

L&T-MHPS Boilers Private Limited, a joint venture of Larsen & Toubro Limited and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Limited, Japan, has a technology licence agreement for Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems with MHPS. The agreement is for design, engineering, manufacture, installation, commissioning, and sale of new boilers under BTG, EPC or SG packages or standalone SCR systems, and for existing and under construction boilers on exclusive basis in India. The SCR systems limit oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions. 

Electrostatic Precipitators

For power plants above 300 MW capacities, L&T supplies Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) under a technology license agreement with Clyde Bergemann, USA. Advanced technological features of the product ensure energy efficiency and low downtime.

L&T-Sargent & Lundy Limited provides engineering and design services for gas based (simple cycle, combined cycle, cogeneration) and coal based (subcritical and supercritical) power plants. Power Block Auxiliaries


Coal Pulverisers

L&T-MHPS Boilers (formerly known as L&T-MHI Boilers) also provides large capacity coal pulverizers which use Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems advanced Mitsubishi Rotary Separator to achieve higher fineness directly resulting in improved combustion efficiency and lower emissions. Since these are large capacity pulverisers, they reduce the number of pulverizers that are required to be used with the boilers, effectively reducing maintenance costs for customers.

Critical Piping

L&T Power has a large pool of experienced piping engineers, specialised software, and state-of-the-art manufacturing set-up for carrying out critical piping work for power plants. Our capability includes alloy steel piping for high pressure and high temperature steam conditions, feed water systems and complete power cycle piping in boiler and turbine islands.

Foundry

L&T Power has set up a heavy foundry with a capacity of 2500T per annum. The foundry would be capable of producing castings of up to 60 MT, making L&T Power only the second company in India with such capability. The foundry will cater to the heavy casting needs of supercritical boilers, turbines, and related auxiliaries.

Heat Exchangers

L&T Power, through the Heavy Engineering Division (HED) of L&T group, also supplies heat exchangers and vessels for power plants. HED has long proven experience in design, manufacturing and delivery of high-pressure and low-pressure heat exchangers, condensers and de-aerators.

Variable Pitch Axial Fans

Variable pitch axial fans are used where high volumes, high aerodynamic performance and precise flow control are required, and where reliability and continuous running for extended periods are demanded. They are the fans of choice in critical applications for large boilers within the power industry, where they are used in both primary air, forced draught and induced draught applications.

L&T-Howden provides for design, engineering, manufacture and supply of axial fans to thermal power plants ranging between 100 MW to 1200 MW.

Rotary Air-Preheaters

Power boilers require highly efficient and reliable air pre-heaters to ensure optimum performance. The core of the pre-heater, the heat exchange surface, is composed of several hundred tonnes of metal plates known as elements. As the pre-heater slowly rotates, at around 1-2 rpm, the elements collect heat from the hot gas stream being discharged from the boiler and then transfer it to the cold air stream entering the boiler. This can provide improved efficiency and boiler performance, thus leading to reduced CO2 emissions from the boiler.

L&T-Howden provides for design, engineering, manufacture and supply rotary air-preheaters to thermal power plants ranging between 100 MW to 1200 MW.

Chimneys

With experience of over three decades in chimney design, L&T Power has commissioned more than 40 chimneys of varied heights and flue material. Among them, five rising to 275 meters.

Cooling Towers

L&T Power offers rich experience spanning over two decades in designing and execution of cooling towers. We specialise in both, Induced Draft Cooling Tower (IDCT) and Natural Draft Cooling Tower (NDCT), and have successfully commissioned cooling towers with capacity of over 400,000m3/h of capacities varying from 600m3/h to 65,000m3/h..
