I hope you are well and ready for the next fibromyalgia article, which is covering some of the risk factors for fibromyalgia.

There are a variety of risk factors for people to develop fibromyalgia. Women, as mentioned in an earlier email are nine times as likely to develop the syndrome then are men. Statistically, there are about nine million people in the United States of America that have fibromyalgia.

Another risk factor is sleep disorders. Data has shown a close link between sleep disorders and fibromyalgia. The exact relationship is still a mystery but research strongly suggests a link.

A person’s age is also a risk factor. The majority of cases peak in intensity between the age of twenty and fifty. As a person gets older the symptoms usually worsen if not treated.

There also appears to be a genetic link to fibromyalgia. If your parents have fibromyalgia there is a greater risk that you will develop it too. This does not mean that you will definitely inherit the condition, but you should watch out for any signs or symptoms.

In the next article I will be talking about some of the medications that can be used to treat fibromyalgia.
