In the last fibromyalgia article I listed out some of the topics I was going to cover in my e-mails.
In this article I am going to give a simple explanation of what fibromyalgia is:
- fibromyalgia is not contagious
- it is comprised of a number of symptoms
- nine out of ten people diagnosed are women
- fibromyalgia used to be considered a psychosomatic problem
Only about 5% of the population is at risk of developing fibromyalgia. It is a cocktail of a number of symptoms. Fibromyalgia is a syndrome that affects muscle fibers and is closely related to pain.
Most researchers believe that fibromyalgia is thought to be a hereditary disorder. At this time there is no actual cure. However, there are ways to treat the syndrome so that the symptoms completely vanish. For some cases, however, this is not possible.
There are varying degrees of this syndrome. Some people may be slightly affected while others are completely debilitated. Fibromyalgia syndrome is not fatal but it can lead to symptoms that can be dangerous. It can cause intense pain and this can lead to difficulty sleeping and restricted movement.
In the next article I will cover symptoms of fibromyalgia.
