In today's article we are going to cover the complications of Crohn's Disease.

Complications caused by Crohn's Disease can be life threatening. That being said, successful treatment and consciously managing the condition can reduce the likelihood that you will experience any serious ailments.

As mentioned in one of my previous newsletters, ulcers are a common symptom of Crohn's Disease. If the ulcers aren't managed properly they can grow and puncture the intestine. This can be potentially dangerous and sometimes surgery is necessary if medication does not resolve the infection.

If surgeries are performed you have to be aware of developing strictures. Strictures, simply put, are scar tissue deposits that result from surgical procedures, which can cause a tightening of the intestines.

Abscesses can form around fistulas. These blisters are highly infected and require treatment or they may never heal. Antibiotics are usually ineffective against abscesses, so the usual technique is to drain the blister.

Crohn's Disease can lead to the development of fissures. Fissures can lead to intense pain, difficulties defecating, and bleeding. Oftentimes, hemorrhoids can form. There are medicines and dietary choices that can mitigate the development of fissures.

Malnutrition is common in patients with Crohn's Disease. Due to the fact that the intestinal tract is not absorbing nutrients at the proper rate, nutritional deficiencies can manifest. However, this complication of Crohn's Disease often happens after a long period of time and can be treated rather easily. Vitamins and other supplements can help overcome malnutrition.

The most dangerous and life-threatening complication of Crohn's Disease is colon cancer. Studies have shown that sufferers of Crohn's Disease are more likely to develop colon cancer. If you have Crohn's Disease, you should keep this in mind and have regular check-ups.

There is a comprehensive explanation of the complications of Crohn's Disease in the downloadable ebook I have reviewed and recommed, "Breakthrough Crohn's Disease Guide".
