Will you go down in the flood?

If you've told your friends and family about your plans to start your own online business, you've probably heard some version of this...

"Now is a bad time to go out on your own and do something so unconventional.

The economy is shaky. Better stay with a solid, secure 9 to 5 job that will always be there."

Why anyone would believe that a 9 to 5 job is secure is beyond me, but let's leave that aside for a moment.

The main problem with this argument is that 9 to 5 jobs are disappearing and more and more people than ever are leaving the corporate world to start their own small business.

In fact, people who do NOT have their own small business may soon be in the MINORITY in the US. According to Daniel Pink in "To Sell is Human"...

"...some analysts project that...independent entrepreneurs could be become the majority by 2020."

In other words, folks with traditional 9 to 5, corporate jobs will be the oddballs.

The minority.

The ones who are out of step.

The ones who didn't jump on the wagon when they could.

The ones who got trapped in the cubicle.

The ones who are still working for "the man".

The ones who were not brave enough to strike out on their own.

Which will you be?
